Club Owner – Laury Hammel

Laury has been a life-long tournament tennis player and as a junior was ranked as high as #3 in the Intermountain and as an adult was ranked #1 in the Men’s Open Doubles in Utah and #2 in the Intermountain. Laury played tennis at the U and had his finest competitive tennis moment when as a freshman at the U he played college junior Stan Smith (the number one college player in the nation) and lost in a hotly contested match 6-4, 6-4. Laury has continued to play tournament tennis all his life and has been ranked #1 in several senior age divisions in New England and in the Top Twenty nationally several times. He is working hard on his game and remains committed to reaching the top ten in the nation so he can continue the legacy of his father’s tennis accomplishments. His sister Carolee is currently ranked #7 in the nation in the Women’s 65 Singles! In 1972, Laury moved to Boston and started his tennis business that has since grown to become New England’s largest tennis company. From the beginning it was New England’s most successful junior tennis program and has continued that excellence ever since. His eight clubs now include 36 indoor courts and several health and wellness centers. Known as The Longfellow Clubs, his business has a national reputation for managing successful tennis programs that teach tennis to thousands of people of all ages and abilities. The Longfellow Clubs are one of the top 50 largest health/tennis club businesses in the United States. With Laury’s current ownership of the Salt Lake Tennis & Health Club he is in his fourth successful turn-around of a failing tennis club.
