Anika Jansen PT, DPT is part of the Dynamic Physical Therapy team and is now offering appointments for our members at the Salt Lake Tennis and Health Club.

Anika will have appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Anika grew up and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Charleston, South Carolina to attain her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina. As a student, she interned in Salt Lake for two rotations “testing out the winters”, before she returned to the Salt Lake area in 2019 after schooling to work. In addition to orthopedics, she has an increased interest for treating patients with vestibular, balance, and concussion diagnoses. She has been working at Dynamic Physical Therapy for the last 3 years. 

Anika loves Utah for the winter skiing and summer hiking, trail running, biking, and paddle boarding. She loves spending time in the outdoors with her dog, Riley, traveling, cooking and is a devoted San Francisco Giants and Forty Niners, and Golden State Warriors fan.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy, also known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), is a non-invasive medical treatment that uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing in various parts of the body. Shockwave therapy has found applications in treating musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those related to tendons and soft tissues.

During a shockwave therapy session, a device applies high-energy acoustic waves to the affected area. These acoustic waves propagate through the skin and interact with the underlying tissues, promoting increased blood flow, tissue regeneration, and reduction of inflammation.

Shockwave therapy is commonly used to treat conditions such as:

• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles tendinitis/tendinosis.
• Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
• Rotator cuff/biceps tendinitis
• Frozen Shoulder
• Patellar tendinitis
• Calcific tendinitis

Overall, shockwave therapy is considered a safe and effective treatment option for certain musculoskeletal conditions, particularly for individuals who have not responded well to other conservative treatments such as rest, physical therapy, or medication.

This may not be appropriate for those who have:

1. Current malignant tumors
2. Blood clotting disorders
3. During Pregnancy near the womb
4. If you have had a recent surgery in the last 12 weeks.
5. If you have had a cortisone injection in the area in the last 6 weeks.
