A fruit or veggie, a granola bar, a carb and one sweet treat — and we are very stingy on the sweet treats. Every camper gets ONE piece of red licorice, or ONE small laffy taffy. Water bottles get refilled.
Sandwiches, with a choice of three breads (white, wheat or multigrain):
Plus fresh fruit, a veggie, a carb and a sweet treat.
Yes — on everything but the sweet treat.
Yes, but if it needs cooking and the cafe is already busy it’s not a good idea — so we ask campers to order first thing when they get there. They can buy sweet treats from the cafe too, but they can’t eat them until after camp. (Our sweet treat policy.)
You’ll need to pack your child’s food for the day.
Yes. By request of the aquatics department, every camper takes a swim test on their first day — this is standard at camps where parents aren’t present. They swim the full 25-foot length of the pool without stopping or touching the wall. If they don’t pass, we provide a lifejacket. They can retest as many times as they like to test out of it.
Tell us on the registration form. Non-swimmers stay with an adult counselor at a 3-to-1 ratio, on the stairs and landing where they can touch.
Yes — they must be Coast Guard approved. Your child will still be under close adult supervision at the 3-to-1 ratio.
Lifeguards are on duty and camp counselors are in the water with the campers. If a child needs to leave the pool, their coach waves down the Camp Manager — who is circling the pool constantly — and the Manager takes them, so the counselor and the rest of the group stay in the water. Campers and counselors wear colour-coded bracelets and necklaces in the water for identification.
Counselors apply spray sunscreen at 1:00 pm and again at 1:55 pm. If you’d like a specific sunscreen used, put it in your child’s bag — sprays are what we prefer. Children can spray their own, but a counselor watches to make sure they actually cover their skin.
Children choose what they want to do — more swimming, basketball, tennis, extra snacks. They’re supervised by an adult counselor who has passed a background check. It’s $20 per hour per child. Contact Esther, the Camp Director, at (801) 699-8153 or slthcsummersportscamp@gmail.com to schedule it.
Contact Esther Simpson at slthcsummersportscamp@gmail.com or (801) 699-8153 and she’ll make the arrangements.
Yes, absolutely. When they check in out front we ask them to call you to say they arrived safely, and before they head home they call again to say they’re leaving and what time it is. Both calls happen in front of a counselor in case there are questions. If your child doesn’t have a phone they can use a counselor’s.
Yes, absolutely — just mark it with your name. The most common thing campers bring is a baseball mitt.
Please don’t bring them to camp. If they do come down with something, we can work with you if you show us a doctor’s note — we’ll either refund or reschedule if there’s room.
That’s fine, but we need two weeks’ notice so we have a chance to fill the spot. All changes cost $25. Medical exceptions with a doctor’s note are considered.
Cancel with two or more weeks’ notice and you get a refund minus the $25 fee. Less than two weeks and there’s no refund. Medical exceptions with a doctor’s note are considered.
Camp Director — Esther Simpson. Manager of Sports Camp for the last four years, and involved since the beginning as a Jr. Counselor working alongside Jackie Parker to make camp what it is today. “I love seeing the kids grow and develop new skills each day. Helping kids of all ages learn and grow is so important to me.”
Managers are adults who have worked with Jackie and Esther for years — responsible, caring and very good with children and adults.
PE teachers are peers Esther has worked with and hand-picks.
Adult counselors are 18 or older. They often have children who also work at camp, or they’re in college studying to work with children. They partner with campers who are struggling with a skill and slow the drill down for them. Every adult 18+ has passed a background check.
Junior counselors are 14–18 — generally very athletic kids who loved elementary PE. Most are on school teams, cheer squads or in student government. They play alongside your children and challenge the strong ones.
Counselors in training are 13 and volunteer. Many campers become counselors in training, then junior counselors the following year.
Daily, with a mild sanitizer.
Hand sanitizer is always available and nearby.
Eleven weeks, three camp options, and a new sport every single one. Book the weeks you want before they fill — registration is online and takes a few minutes.
